OPEN LETTER TO THE HORSE EVERYBODY IS ALWAYS
RIDING IN ON
Dear Horse Everybody is Always Riding In On,
Any relation to the horse everybody is leading to water but who can't be made to drink? Or the gift horse everybody is looking in the mouth? Never mind, it doesn't matter. I know your time is valuable, so I'll get straight to the point. What are you doing with your life? I mean, allowing this parade of losers to take your mount and ride haplessly into inappropriate places and situations, only to be told to leave - and to bring you with them? It's sad, really.
I pity you because you've been "broken" by us, the two-legged devils who muzzle you and tie you with ropes and strap on your feed bag. Now, I'm not suggesting you bite the hand that administers the bag that feeds you, but at the same time ... have some backbone, man! Ever notice that you're a lot bigger than us and ten times more powerful? One horsepower may not seem like much by today's standards, but you shouldn't sell yourself short. If some jackass (not a donkey but a stupid person) wants to badger (not a furry woodland creature but a verb, meaning "to bother") his ex-girlfriend and her fiancé whilst they dine on veal medallions and truffles in a fancy restaurant, throw your front hooves in the air and say, "Neeeigh there, buddy! Just where do you think you're going?" Granted, you can't talk, but start bucking your hind legs too and he'll get the picture, I guar-an-tee. Maybe then he'll put you out to pasture and find a nice, obedient llama to ride instead.
But you don't want to go out to pasture, am I right? I understand, it's because you fear the same things we do - boredom, lack of fulfillment, lack of purpose. I've been there, my friend. You just want a steady nine-to-five gig, where you contribute something to society - however trivial - and then get your handful of oats come nightfall, maybe even a nice piece of apple every now and then. Yeah, you know what? I'm sorry. Maybe you aren't such a fool, now that I think of it. After all, you could be that horse everybody's always beating. And we surely know he ain't being ridden anyplace, by anybody, ain't eating no oats, nothing. That's called perspective. We humans tend to loose sight of it sometimes.
Sincerely,
Steve Dupont
