So, it's not that I feel that strongly about gays having the right to get married. It's more a state of dismay over why some people are so vehemently against it. I have yet to hear any of these ultra-conservative jackasses and religious nuts explain just what is so harmful to society about this. "It's just wrong," they say. "Marriage is, and has always been, about the union of a man and a woman," they say. Well, before the civil rights movement you could say, "Voting has always been about a white candidate and a white voter," could you not? It's just another example of the religious right imposing their f---ed up moral values on all Americans. I mean, especially down here in The South, people aren't afraid to talk openly - in mixed company and even in business situations - about how gays are going to hell! You think I'm kidding, but I'm not. It happens, because these people think they have a mandate from God to think this way and that surely anyone without horns and a tail (or dark skin) must agree! It's presumptuous and absolutely preposterous! And any politician, much less any PRESIDENT (not to mention any names), who even pays lip service to this ideology should be ashamed of himself or herself. Ashamed I tell you. Because, unless I'm sorely mistaken, the vast majority of Americans couldn't give a flying f--k if two gay people file a joint tax return and are entitled to inheritance rights and other fundamental legal rights just like the rest of us adulterous, wife-beating, husband's-dick-cutting-off straight people who are really doing the institution of marriage a lot of justice, now, aren't we?
